The fun and the party are all in your head. They are as boisterous and raucous or mellow and light as you imagine them to be. And, all are equally fun. This frame of mind took nearly fifty years to develop. I guess I am a slow learner. I started life as a kid in New York City with the heavy "My Cousin Vinny" accent, the loves of greasy pizza, dirty water hot dogs, and subways. I left that for the Marine Corps and left that for law school. Law school in Atlanta was the first time I realized that school and intellectual pursuits could be fun. Moot court (a law school version of debate) revealed my love of thinking on my feet and some modicum of skill in argument. Life in Atlanta as a lawyer brought me a beautiful and brilliant wife, two wonderful kids, and a number of great friends. Our house was a beautiful 1920s red brick design with a porch on an acre of land in metro Atlanta. Fairly idyllic. Eventually, we moved for a work opportunity and ended up in Tiburon, California. Idyllic took on a new meaning. Tiburon is about the most beautiful little town one could imagine with views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, Berkeley, and sailboats. Every day and almost always you can see sailboats. And hear the harbor seals. And the channel markers. And freighters. And when foggy the haunting sound of foghorns. So, here we are, in Tiburon. My career as a lawyer nears its end, one kid in college and one a senior in high school. The house will be empty in a blink of an eye, and Teresa and I are planning to move onto a boat and travel the world. This is the story of the decision process to move onto a boat as well as some daily life thrown in.
